Abu Dhabi: Disputes of 2,776 workers, particularly regarding wages, were settled at the One-Day court of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department and they received over Dh36 million in pending dues, the department said on Wednesday.

Interestingly, the disputes of these all workers were with only one company in Abu Dhabi. Most of the disputes were about late payment of salaries, leave compensations, end of service benefits, and travel allowances.

Counsellor Yousuf Al Abri, Undersecretary of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, said, “The department has taken the initiative to speed up settlement of cases and minimise the period of judgements. The initiative is to ensure workers’ rights are upheld, and guarantee their protection under law.”

The establishment of the one-day court was aimed to speed up the settlement and judgment of workers cases. Under the civil procedures of the law, Article 266 guarantees workers speedy proceeding to ensure they enjoy their privileges in the quickest possible way.
