Renowned actor coming to Dubai

Dubai: The Urdu speaking community in the UAE will be treated to an evening of prose, poetry and classical music with internationally renowned actor and orator Zia Mohyeddin.

The event is being organised by Salam Pakistan, a group formed by Dubai-based Pakistanis to promote the best of their country's art and culture in the UAE.

The performance by Mohyeddin will be interspersed with sitar music by Nafees Ahmad, a maestro of the instrument. The event will be organised on June 3 at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre (Ductac) at the Mall of the Emirates.

Mohyeddin is a famous Pakistani orator and actor, who also starred in Eugene O'Neil's Long Day's Journey Into Night; Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and made his West End debut playing Dr Aziz in EM Forster's Passage to India. He was a smash on Broadway too.

He also featured in the classic film Lawrence of Arabia in 1962 and continues with work on the BBC as well as in a couple of other series. He returned to Pakistan and hosted his all-time famous Zia Mohyeddin show on the Pakistan Television at the peak of his career. Mohyeddin is well known for his solo performances as an orator.

Progressive

Salam Pakistan is a non-profit group comprising a few Pakistanis based in Dubai. The aim of the group is to showcase to the world the progressive, educated and modern side of Pakistan. The group is committed to bringing excellent Pakistani art, in any form and showing it to the large mix of audience in the UAE.

The group has successfully organised at least three major events during the last six months bringing some of the best artists to Dubai. It organised an evening with the Pride of Performance Violinist Ustad Raees Ahmad. It also organised Poetric Strokes, a group art exhibition of Pakistani artists. It also brought to Dubai the Director's Wife a play written by Mohammad Hanif and performed by Nirma Bucha. The group believes that it is just a beginning and there is much more to come to portray a positive image of their country.
