Man sentenced to death for murder in Sharjah

He stabbed his victim in a drunken brawl

Sharjah: A man, who stabbed another man to death in a brawl over alcohol, was given the death sentence by the Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance.

J.S. appealed the death sentence, which is now being reviewed by the Appeal Court in Sharjah.

According to court documents a second man, who accompanied J.S., was acquitted by the court. He was given one year in jail for threatening to kill a man and a fine of Dh1,000 for consuming alcohol. He will be deported after serving his jail term.

Court documents revealed that J.S., 24, stabbed R.F,, 28, in his chest and heart, killing him.

J.S. and a friend went to the residence of the victim R.F. and his brother to get alcohol. The pair claimed they were from Criminal Investigation Department, so the victim would let them in. According to court papers J.S. beat up and stabbed the victim, searched the house and stole Dh100. The two men were drunk when the victim was murdered.

J.S.'s accomplice told police that he did not kill anyone and that he only went with J.S. to fetch the alcohol, buried by J.S. in a sandy area, when some drunk men came and beat them up and J.S. stabbed the victim. The crime happened in Sharjah Industrial area number 13.
