Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) sleuths have arrested three infiltrators with a large amount of narcotics from the northern region of Oman, according to a press release.

“We had information that three Asians, believed to be associates of an international drug mafia gang, had entered Oman illegally and were carrying a large amount of narcotics,” a spokesman for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.

He added that a crack team was formed by the Directorate General for Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in North Batinah. “Trained police dogs were employed to search for the hidden drugs as police detectives tailed the three suspects at different locations,” he said.

The police found narcotics hidden from a number of farms in the Tarif area of Sohar, about 230km north of Muscat.

The raids and arrests of the three illegal Asians, led to confiscation of 25 bags of morphine, a total 388 heroin capsules from two different locations and 1,785 Tramadol pills.

He warned that the relentless crackdown against the drug traffickers as well as the addicts would continue and asked for cooperation from the residents in the country to fight the scourge of drug. He asked people to call 9999 or 1444 to report any suspicious cases of drug use or trade.

Meanwhile, in the southern region the ROP arrested an Asian expatriate for bootlegging in Salalah, about 1000-km south of Muscat.

All the accused were handed over to the Public Prosecution for further investigations.
