Manama: A forum that focuses on the history of the rule by Al Khalifa family in Bahrain and will refer to the Qatar crisis will be held in June, the chairman of Bahrain Centre for Strategic and International and Energy Studies (Derasat) said.

“Several experts and specialists will be participating in the event and further details will be provided later,” Dr. Shaikh Abdullah Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa said as the centre hosted its annual ghabga (late evening dinner) to honour stakeholders and to thank partners.

In January, Derasat hosted a forum, ‘Qatar as the Godfather of Chaos and Crises in the Middle East’ in which 240 participants discussed the latest regional developments and their impact on the region.

“We are building on the forum’s positive and successful responses and reactions of the GCC countries and the region. The forum in June will be similar, but will specialise in a historical aspect that concerns the history of Al Khalifa family,” Shaikh Abdullah said.

On June 5, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt cut off their diplomatic relations with Qatar after they accused it of supporting extremists and funding terrorism.

As mediation efforts by Kuwait have not succeeded in narrowing the gap between the two sides, think tanks have endeavoured to explain the causes and consequences of the crisis, the worst to hit the region in modern history.

The Quartet regularly said that Qatar should address the real roots of the crisis and avoid international charm offensives, media campaigns and populist claims.
