Hyderabad: Telangana government on Saturday airlifted 100 metric tonnes of nutritious food for the children of flood-hit Kerala state.

The packaged food prepared by Telangana Foods, a public sector enterprise, was sent to Kerala by an army helicopter from Begumpet airport this morning. The food was prepared at a cost of Rs5.25 million. Trucks carrying the food to the airport were flagged off by the Telangana Food corporation chairman Election Reddy and managing director Vijayendra Boye.

“This Balamrutam food is meant for the children in the age group of 7 months to three years. We are dispatching it on the orders of the chief minister”, Boye said.

This was in addition to Rs250 million assistance Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced for Kerala on Friday night.

According to an official statement KCR directed Chief Secretary S.K, Joshi to ensure that the money was handed over to Kerala at the earliest.

He also ordered that 10 reverse osmosis machines should also be provided to Kerala so the polluted water could be cleaned for drinking purpose.

As a neighbouring state it is our responsibility to come to the help of Kerala, the chief minister said.

He urged the industrialists, IT companies, businessmen and people from other sectors to do their best to help Kerala in to overcome crisis. He said that money can be donated to the CM’s relief fund in Hyderabad and all the contribution will be immediately sent to Kerala.

Expressing his deep sadness and distress over the loss of life and damage to the property in Kerala he prayed for the fast recovery from this natural calamity.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has also announced an assistance of Rs100 million for Kerala.

The heart-rending reports from Kerala which was reeling under the worst floods in a century, have moved all the sections of society and the people were coming forward to extend a helping hand.

Telugu film industry has also decided to contribute to the Kerala chief minister’s relief fund. Actor Allu Arjun has announced a contribution of Rs2.5 million and Vijay Devarkonda has chipped in Rs500,000. “people of Kerala have always given their immense love and support to me and they have a special place in my heart. It is my duty to help them in this hour of crisis to the possible extent”, said Allu Arun.

Banni Vasu, producer of the newly released Telugu film Geeta Govindam announced that the proceeds from his film will be donated to the relief fund.
