Take a look at India’s new lavender Rs100 notes! And it has a Gujarat heritage site as the motif

Dubai: India is set to issue new notes for the denomination of Rs100 (Dh5.32). Indian Twitterati shared the released pictures of the new lavender coloured notes earlier today.

News Agency Asian News International (@ANI) in a tweet posted a statement by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that said: “Will shortly issue Rs100 denomination banknotes. This new denomination has motif of “RANI KI VAV” on the reverse, depicting the country’s cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Lavender. The existing 100 rupee note will continue to be legal tender.”

Explaining the new motif on the notes, tweep @Defence_360 posted: “...the new denomination will have the motif of ‘Rani ki vav’ – a stepwell located on the banks of Saraswati river in Gujarat’s Patan. All Rs100 banknotes issued earlier will also continue to be legal tender.”

While many shared the news and new pictures. Some took to Twitter to express what they felt about the new notes. Tweep @Supriya23bh posted: “Lavender... New 100 Rs currency note... ߤ? Reminds me of the game Monopoly!”

@PMvasavada posted: “Thanks to the RBI and our government for publishing Gujarat’s heritage site, as it will become more famous.”?

Tweep @BalgitSharma noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who belongs to Gujarat, might have been the reason for the selection of the new motif. He posted: “Depicting the country’s cultural heritage. That, it is from Gujarat, is only incidental.”

Some were not happy with the new colour. Twitter user @DucksTroll posted: “Dear @RBI, please come out in open, tell us who is torturing you to select these colors for notes, India is with you, don’t succumb to pressure.”

While others felt that the RBI needed to finish the previous task of issuing Rs1000(Dh53.21) denomination notes before taking on a new task.

@Lilyyyy_P tweeted: “Issue 1000 denomination notes first! Rs100 notes are already available! I still don’t get the point of having Rs2000 notes! Every decision is stupid.”

On November 8, 2016, the Indian Prime Minister announced demonetisation of Rs1000 and Rs500 notes with effect from midnight, making them invalid , which was allegedly done as a major assault on black money, fake currency and corruption.

Twitter user @susmi195 took the opportunity to sarcastically congratulate Modi for India’s development. The tweep posted: “Here come the lavender coloured currency notes. Whoever spoke about the lack of development, back off. Attractive vibgyor coloured banknotes, pseudo world-class universities, newly baptised railway stations and highways, factories promoting ‘make in India’! What more do you need?”
