New Delhi: A lawyer on Monday tonsured her head while addressing media alleging rape and mental torture by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Uttar Pradesh.

The lawyer from state capital, Lucknow, accused BJP leader and her senior colleague Satish Sharma of raping her for three years. At a press conference, she said Sharma recorded an obscene video of hers and kept blackmailing her.

Further alleging that the police refused to register her complaint, she shaved her head off during the press conference.

“I went to the police to lodge a complaint but they turned a blind eye. I complained to Awadh Bar Association, too, but nothing was done. My family keeps getting murder threats,” she said.

The lawyer said she decided to shave off her hair as a mark of protest against brutality by the BJP leader and inefficiency of the police.

However, she added that in order to shame her, Sharma had already cut a major portion of her hair.

“Satish Sharma is threatening me. He has already cut a major portion of my hair. He is a big leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and has all the political shielding. There is nothing left. I am being made to face this only because I am a Dalit,” she said.

The victim threatened to commit suicide if no action was taken against the accused in next 24 hours.

Sharma was unavailable for comment. Sources in state BJP unit said the accused was not a primary member of the party but only represented cases of certain BJP leaders in various courts.

Earlier, in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, a 17-year-old girl had alleged rape by senior BJP leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

The rape survivor attempted to immolate herself in front of the residence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 8 (Tuesday).

Last month, her father died under mysterious circumstances in Unnao jail. After being allegedly roughed up by accused leader Sengar’s brother and accomplices a few days before, the father sustained multiple injuries and died while being taken to Unnao district hospital.

The case is being investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation.
