Hyderabad: A father angered by his son’s addiction to watching pornographic films on his smart phone has chopped off his right hand.

After the incident, the father surrendered to the Pahadishareef police station here on Monday.

According to the police, Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Qureshi had been warning his 19-year-old son, Khalid Qureshi, for some time against spending too much time on his smart phone, especially watching porn.

The family lives in the Hyderabad's Jalapalli Colony.

Khalid, who was working as an assistant in a TV cable operator’s office, was as usual watching movies on his mobile on Sunday when his father caught him red handed.

Son bites father's hand

When he tried to snatch the phone from his hand, Khalid bit his father’s hand and fled.

After returning home late in the night, the son continued to watch the movies which led to further altercation on Monday.

An angry Abdul Qayyum, a butcher by profession, used his knife to chop off Khalid’s right hand.

Father surrenders to police

While other shocked family members and neighbours rushed the young man to hospital, Abdul Qayyum went to the police station and surrendered himself.

Khalid was admitted to Osmania General Hospital where doctors said the possibility of restoration of his hand was bleak.

Family members said, Khalid, one of the four children of Abdul Qayyum, was lazy and spent most of his time on the phone. After much persuasion he had recently joined the private job but was irregular at work.

The police have booked an attempt to murder case against the father and remanded him in judicial custody.
