Patna: Three officials in Bihar have died of dengue fever in the past two days, causing alarm over the increase in people diagnosed with the illness. According to a health department report, so far 264 patients have tested positive for dengue.
On Sunday, a senior doctor at a government health centre in Saran district died of dengue fever within two days of being admitted to a private hospital in Patna. The victim identified as Dr Vasudeo Prasad was admitted on Friday after being detected with dengue fever.
Earlier on Saturday, Dr Vijay Kumar died of dengue. The victim was working as an anaesthesiologist with the local Ford Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after he was diagnosed with dengue fever. Hours within his admission, however, his platelets went down and has given a platelet transfusion, but his condition didn’t improve leading to his death.
Another official who fell victim to dengue fever was Sangeeta Kumari. She was a district programme officer (DPO) with the Integrated Child Development Services in Gopalganj was admitted to a private hospital in the state capital earlier this week but she died on Sunday after her platelets went down to a dangerous level. She was only recently promoted to DPO from the child development project office and posted in Gopalganj.
The rising deaths from dengue cases have caused panic. Most of the dengue cases have been reported from Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Buxur and Nalanda districts.
