Hyderabad: The tug of war between two bitter rival parties in Andhra Pradesh took another twist on Tuesday.

A senior leader of the YSR Congress party, Vijaysai Reddy, raised the heckles of the ruling Telugu Desam party after he touched the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament to seek his blessings.

The development took place on a day when the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu convened an all party meeting to discuss the strategy in Parliament on how to press the no trust motion against the Modi government.

The YSR Congress, the main opposition party, BJP and Jana Sena party of film star Pawan Kalyan stayed away from the meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Naidu was attended by the representatives of TDP, CPI, CPIM and the Lok Satta.

The demand for special category status to Andhra Pradesh was the main subject on the agenda.

Chandrababu Naidu briefed the opposition parties about his efforts to secure the interest of the state and force the Centre to fulfill its promises.

He also explained the circumstances in which he decided to take the final step of quitting the NDA and its government at the Centre.

However, in New Delhi, yet another day passed in the Parliament without any proceedings and the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan did not take any decision on the No Trust Motions of different political parties.

Vijaysai Reddy’s gesture to Modi became the subject of discussions and speculation in political circles.

Reddy took the unusual step when the Prime Minister was entering the Rajya Sabha. It happened at a time when YSR Congress has also expressed its lack of trust in the Modi government.

Vijaysai touching the feet of Modi evoked a sharp reaction from the TDP which questioned the motives behind the growing proximity of YSR Congress with Modi government.

“He is doing it only to come out of the corruption charges in which he is accused No. 2”, said Nara Lokesh, son of Chandrababu Naidu and a minister in the state. He said that the people were watching who was falling on the feet of the Prime Minister and who was fighting for the interests of the state. “It is not good that an accused in corruption cases was moving around the Prime Minister”, he said.

Earlier Vijaysaid Reddy had met the Prime Minister in his office and the TDP had questioned how he can be allowed to meet the PM when he was facing serious criminal cases.

Vijaysai Reddy earlier Tuesday lashed out at Chandrababu Naidu and called him “a leader of thieves” and “a big criminal like Charles Sobhraj”.
