Hyderabad: A week has passed since the daring heist at the Nizam’s Museum in Hyderabad in which two thieves vanished with two priceless antiques made of gold.
As many as 15 teams from Hyderabad police have joined the search for the gold tiffin box and gold cup that belonged to the last Nizam, Mira Osman Ali Khan.
Experts put the value of the artefacts stolen from the museum, at Purani Haveli palace in old Hyderabad, at Rs500 million (Dh25.4 million).
Police officials close to the investigation say not much progress had been made as the only clue authorities could find was blurry footage from a CCTV camera outside the museum.
“The probe is now focused on a particular model of pulsar motorcycle which the perpetrators of the crime rode”, a police official said.
The only silver lining was that very few people have reportedly bought that model of the bike and, as it was without a registration plate, it could be a newly purchased vehicle.
Police could not find any record of complaint of theft of any such bike.
The two young men entered the museum on the first floor of the building from another adjacent building through a ventilator on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday last week, and took away the valuables.
Fingerprints lifted from the scene by forensic investigators were not much of a help, officials said.
