Patna: A grade 10 schoolgirl was allegedly gang-raped by 10 students in Bihar in yet another incident of mass rape. The incident took place in West Champaran district of Bihar last week but was only reported to the police on Tuesday.

Police said the girl, enrolled in a government high school, was returning home after classes when the accused overpowered her in a deserted place and took her inside a sugar cane field where she was raped until she lost consciousness.

According to the victim, the accused students threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed their crime to anyone and fled the scene after she fainted.

The matter came to light when she stopped going to school and her parents insisted on knowing why. They reported the issue to local police.

“The incident is very serious and saddening. We are investigating the case. Everyone involved in the crime will be arrested,” the local district superintendent of police Arvind Kumar Gupta told the media on Wednesday.

The police have formed a special investigation team and arrested one accused so far. Raids were on to nab other accused persons.

This is the second incident of gang-rape of schoolgirls in the past fortnight. Earlier this month, a grade nine girl student had alleged she was gang-raped by 18 persons, including the principal of the school where she was studying, two schoolteachers and 15 students after which the police arrested the school principal.

Shockingly, principal’s minor son was also involved in the rape of the victim. The teenaged victim was enrolled in a private school located under Ekma police station in Saran district, some 100km north of Patna.

According to her complaint, three students gang-raped the victim in the toilet of the school in December last year and then made a video of the incident.

Using the video, the accused persons began blackmailing her and also forced her to have sex with other students in the school.

When the victim brought the matter to the notice of the school administration, the school principal as well as some teachers too began sexually exploiting her, instead of coming to her rescue.

This trauma had continued for the past seven months until the victim finally mustered courage and reported the matter to her parents who filed a case against 18 persons at the local police station. The accused include the school principal Uday Singh, two teachers and 15 students, most of them teenagers.
