Abu Dhabi: Dr Nawal Khalifa Al Hosani presented her letter of accreditation as the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), in Abu Dhabi.

Adnan Z. Ameen, Director-General of Irena, received the credentials during a presentation ceremony at Irena’s headquarters at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi on Monday, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.

Dr Thani Bin Ahmad Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, who had served as the first Permanent Representative of the UAE to the Irena, was also present on the occasion. The UAE was the first country to appoint a permanent representative to the Agency in 2013.

Speaking on her new role, Dr Al Hosani said: “As a host and member country, the UAE has been a true partner to Irena, supporting the Agency financially, politically and diplomatically. I am honoured to represent the country at Irena. On behalf of the UAE, I pledge to advance the Agency’s mission to spearhead the use of renewable energy across the globe,“ she said.

Al Hosani served as Deputy General Manager of Emirates Diplomatic Academy, Director of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, and held several positions at the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).

The Mission of the UAE to the Irena represents the country’s interests through promoting collaboration among the member states in advancing the renewable energy agenda worldwide.

Abu Dhabi has been home to Irena since the Agency’s establishment in 2009. The Irena is the first full-fledged intergovernmental entity dedicated to the advancement of renewable energy, and the first and only international organisation with headquarters in the Middle East. The Agency provides practical advice and support to developed and developing countries wishing to step up the efforts to adopt renewable energy. Furthermore, it serves as a platform for international cooperation and a hub of knowledge on renewable energy.
