Dubai: The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has announced a special six-month entry permit, to assist people who would like to obtain a golden residence visa. Here is all you need to know about the new entry permit and who is eligible to apply for one.

What is the golden visa?

The golden visa offers residency for five or ten years for certain categories of individuals, as opposed to the standard two- or three-year residence visa.

What is the new entry permit?

On April 1, ICA announced an entry permit, which will be issued for a period of six months, and can be extended for another six months, to facilitate the completion of procedures for obtaining a golden residency.

Who can apply for the service?

Those who are eligible to apply for a golden visa can apply for this six month entry permit. The categories eligible for the golden visa include:

1. Investors (public investments / real estate investor)

2. Entrepreneurs (owner and founder of a project)

3. Specialised talents (doctors/scientists)

4. Creative specialists in culture and art

5. Inventors

6. Specialists in priority scientific fields

7. Athletes

8. Ph.D. holders

9. Specialists in the fields of Engineering and Science (Epidemiology and Viruses / Artificial Intelligence / Big Data / Computer Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Programming Engineering, Electrical, Genetics, and Biotechnology)

10. Outstanding students (high school students/university students)

How can I apply for the six-month entry permit?

Applicants can file their documents through the following channels:

Website

• ICA smartphone application ‘ICA UAE’, which is available for Apple and Android devices

• Tasheel typing centre

You can also receive further information on the visa through the ICA app, the ICA’s call centre – 600 522222, by visiting their website – www.ica.gov.ae – or by visiting an ICA customer happiness centre.

Once you have submitted the application, you will receive a text message and email confirming the receipt of the application.

Similarly, you will receive a text message and email whenever there is an update on your application.

When the entry permit has been issued, you will receive an email with the permit.

Which documents do I need to submit?

Documents based on eligible categories

Investors

An investor in public investments would need to submit the following documents:

• Bringing a letter from an investment fund approved in the UAE stating that there is a deposit of Dh2million.

• Or bringing a valid commercial or industrial licence with the company’s incorporation contract with the investor so that the investor's capital is not less than Dh2million.

• Investing in a new or existing company as a partner with shares of a minimum of Dh2million, not financed by a loan.

• Or bring a letter from the Federal Tax Authority stating that he is the owner of a company that pays the government no less than Dh250,000 annually.

• Or bring a letter from the Federal Tax Authority stating that he is a partner in an establishment that pays tax to the government and whose share in the tax is no less than Dh250,000 annually.

Real estate investor

A real estate investor would need to submit the following documents:

• Letter from the Real Estate Registration Department in the relevant emirate stating that he owns one or more properties whose value is not less than Dh2million, stating that the property is not subject to a loan.

• Proof of housing in the UAE (home ownership or house rental contract).

Entrepreneurs

An entrepreneur would need to submit the following documents:

• Having the approval letter from an auditor in the UAE stating that the project value is not less than Dh500,000 (project owner).

• Having the approval letter from the authorities in the Emirate stating that the project is of a technical or future nature in which leadership is achieved (project owner).

• Having the approval letter from an accredited business incubator in the UAE to establish the proposed activity in the country (founder of a project).

• Having a valid passport copy.

• Presenting valid health insurance, which is not less than one year and can be extended.

• Proof of housing in the UAE (home ownership / house rental contract).

Doctors and scientists

• Doctors need to submit an approval letter from the Ministry of Health to practise the profession, while scientists need to submit a letter of recommendation from the Emirates Council of Scientists or a letter from the Secretariat of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Academic Excellence stating that they are a recipient of the Academic Excellence Medal (Scholars).

• A valid passport copy.

• Valid health insurance, which is for not less than one year and can be extended.

Creative people in the fields of culture and art

• An approval letter from the Department of Culture and Arts in the relevant emirate. (People of culture and art)

• A valid passport copy.

• A valid health insurance, which is not less than one year and can be extended.

Executive Directors

• Certified university degree

• Minimum five years of experience WHERE?

• Salary not less than Dh50,000 (PER MONTH?)

• Valid work contract

• Valid Passport copy

• Valid health insurance, which is for not less than one year and can be extended

Specialists in the fields of science and athletes

• A specialised certificate in a rare field specified by the authorities in the UAE (scientific fields of priority).

• A recommendation letter from the General Sports Authority or one of the sports councils (athletes).

• Valid passport copy.

• Valid health insurance, which is for not less than one year and can be extended.

Holders of doctoral degrees and specialists in the fields of engineering and science

• Having a certified copy of the PhD from the Ministry of Education in one of the priority disciplines (PhD degrees).

• Bring a certified copy of the university degree from the Ministry of Education in one of the above-mentioned majors (engineering and science fields).

• Bring a work contract for a profession in one of the above-mentioned specialisations (engineering and science fields).

• Valid passport copy.

• Valid health insurance, which is for not less than one year and can be extended.

Outstanding Students

• Bring a recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education (for school students) or a recommendation letter from the university (for university students) stating that their GPA is not less than 3.8.

How much will it cost?

The total cost of the entry permit is Dh1,150.
