    COVID-19 rules announced for Ramadan 2021: All you need to know

    No iftar tents, Taraweeh prayers will be held, electronic donations encouraged

    With Ramadan around the corner, the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) announced guidelines for the month, in a press briefing on  March 16.

    Here is all you need to know about the rules that need to be adhered to during Ramadan:

    No iftar tents, sharing meals - For the health and safety of society, NCEMA advised everyone to avoid evening gatherings during Ramadan, and limit family visits.

    People were also asked to avoid distributing and exchanging meals between homes and families. Only members of the same family living in the same house can share meals.

    It is not allowed to set up family or institutional iftar tents, share meals in public places or provide and distribute iftar meals in front of homes and mosques.

    Those interested in doing so must coordinate with charities with donations and zakat given electronically.

    Restaurants are prohibited from distributing iftar meals inside or in front of the restaurant.

    No iftar meals at mosques - Iftar meals are not allowed inside mosques. Mosques will be closed immediately after the prayer, while women’s prayer areas, other facilities and mosques on external roads will remain closed.

    As for Qiyam-ul-layl (late night prayers) during the last ten days of Ramadan, NCEMA said that the status of the pandemic will be continuously assessed and measures will be updated in accordance with new developments.

    Religious lessons and meetings in mosques will remain suspended, with the option of virtual participation. Reading the Quran should be done through smart devices.

    Inspection campaigns According to NCEMA, intensive inspection campaigns will be carried out during Ramadan and legal measures will be taken against all violators, whether individuals or institutions.
