The long-anticipated biopic of Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly has officially moved from development to production. Actor Rajkummar Rao, known for his chameleonic transformations, confirmed the news on Wednesday evening via Instagram, revealing that the film is now filming under the title Dada.

The project brings together a creative team to capture the "Prince of Calcutta’s" life story, featuring Vikramaditya Motwane as director and Luv Ranjan alongside Ankur Garg as producers. Leading the film is actor Rajkummar Rao, who shared his excitement with fans on social media by posting: “And it begins… The one and only #DADA.”

The film recently sparked social media chatter after Rao appeared at an event in February looking significantly different. While fans expressed concern over his weight gain and altered hairstyle, the actor clarified that the look was a result of his intense preparation for back-to-back roles.

Rao explained that he had to gain weight for his film Nikam before immediately transitioning into "Ganguly mode." Describing the grueling physical process, he shared:

“For Nikam I had to gain around 9-10 kgs and I was eating 2 pizzas and lot of sweets and my fav Aloo Parathas, Biryani and to not use anything glam to look like the part. Hopefully when you will see the film which will be releasing soon you will be able to see all that hardwork in the film.”

The actor is now in a 'transition phase' to shed the extra weight and mirror the legendary cricketer's athletic build. With filming officially underway, Dada is poised to be one of the most high-profile sports biopics in recent years, documenting the rise of one of India's most beloved sporting icons.
