A decade-long journey of Vishnu's avatars begins with Mahavatar Narsimha
Mahavatar Narsimha has made history as the first animated Indian film to cross Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) at the domestic Indian box office, marking a major breakthrough for Indian animation. Traditionally, animated films in India have found limited success in theaters, performing better on television and digital platforms. Even globally celebrated titles like Frozen 2, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and Incredibles 2 have struggled to surpass Rs 50 crore in India. Among Indian productions, Hanuman previously held the record with just over Rs 10 crore.
The film’s initial modest opening was quickly transformed by strong word-of-mouth and support from family audiences, resulting in a substantial boost during its second weekend.
Well, there’s more. A while ago in June, Hombale Films and Kleem Productions have unveiled the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, an ambitious animated franchise spanning over a decade, dedicated to chronicling the ten divine avatars of Lord Vishnu.
The series begins with Mahavatar Narsimha in 2025 and will conclude with Mahavatar Kalki Part 2 in 2037, promising a cinematic journey rich in mythology, culture, and breathtaking animation.
A spokesperson from Hombale Films had said in a statement, “At Hombale Films, we believe in storytelling that transcends time and borders. With Mahavatar, we are proud to present a cinematic universe that brings the sacred avatars of Vishnu to life through breathtaking animation. This is more than a film series — it is our tribute to India’s spiritual legacy.”
