Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children told the Delhi High Court on Friday that the university fees of one of them, who is studying in the United States, have gone unpaid for the past two months, according to media reports.

Justice Jyoti Singh reportedly urged both sides to avoid turning the ongoing estate dispute “melodramatic” and advised that such matters be resolved privately rather than repeatedly brought before the court.

Sunjay Kapur, Karisma’s late husband, passed away in June while playing polo in London due to a heart attack. His children, Samaira and Kiaan, are seeking a rightful share of their late father’s estimated ₹300 billion estate.

Children’s advocate cites unpaid fees

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, told the court that under a matrimonial decree, Sunjay Kapur was obliged to cover all expenses related to the children’s upbringing and education.

He claimed that since the estate is currently controlled by Sunjay’s widow, Priya Kapur, the university fees for Samaira have remained unpaid for two months.

Priya Kapur denies allegations

Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, dismissed the claims as “baseless” and “fabricated.” He added that all expenses raised by the children had already been fulfilled, and suggested that the issue was being raised for media attention.

Justice Singh reportedly instructed advocates representing Priya Kapur to ensure such matters are not repeatedly brought before the court. “I don't want this hearing to be melodramatic,” she said.

‘Cinderella stepmother’ remark resurfaces

The children have previously questioned the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will, even referring to Priya Kapur as a “Cinderella stepmother,” alleging she prioritises her own interests over theirs. Priya responded that the children have already received ₹19 billion. from the family trust. She was also directed in an earlier order to submit a comprehensive list of Sunjay Kapur’s assets.

What the case involves

The hearing related to an interim injunction filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children to restrain Priya Kapur from alienating Sunjay Kapur’s assets. The main suit accuses Priya of forging Sunjay’s will to gain complete control of the property.

The court has listed the matter for next week for continuing arguments on the interim application.
