Family feud intensifies amid fresh probe demands
Rani Kapur, former chairperson of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar), has formally called on UK authorities to launch a full investigation into the death of her son, Sunjay Kapur.
She has raised serious concerns that his passing may not have been natural or accidental, suggesting possible foul play including murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.
In a letter to UK officials, Rani Kapur cited credible evidence pointing to criminal involvement in Sunjay’s death. Sunjay died on June 12 during a polo match at the Duke’s Ground of the Old Guards Polo Club in Surrey, England.
The official cause was cardiac arrest triggered by an allergic reaction after swallowing a bee. However, Rani insists further investigation is needed due to suspicious activities, including forged legal and financial documents, questionable asset transfers, and legal filings that hint at coercion or collusion benefiting certain parties financially.
Rani Kapur suspects her son’s death is part of a wider transnational conspiracy involving individuals and entities across the UK, India, and possibly the US. She has urged UK authorities to register a formal criminal complaint and open an investigation into offences such as murder, conspiracy, fraud, forgery, and obstruction of justice.
Her request includes preserving all relevant evidence—medical records, digital communications, financial documents, CCTV footage, and forensic data. She also advocates for cooperation with Indian and US agencies to probe the international aspects of the case and conduct a forensic audit of Sunjay’s UK financial and legal affairs post-mortem.
Last month, Sona Comstar stated Rani Kapur has not been involved with the company since 2019 and holds no official role, shares, or decision-making authority. The company highlighted her lack of legal standing in corporate matters.
Sunjay Kapur was the sole beneficiary of the RK Family Trust, which controls Sona Comstar, a ₹310 billion ($3.7 billion) auto component manufacturer. Since his death:
His widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, manages the trust’s interests
She is legal guardian to their 6-year-old son, Azarius, who inherits a stake
Priya was appointed non-executive director of Sona Comstar’s board in July
Rani Kapur has challenged Priya’s growing influence, alleging she was pressured into signing documents and excluded from key decisions during the mourning period. She disputes the official cause of Sunjay’s death and is reportedly considering legal action to assert control over the family legacy. Meanwhile, Sunjay’s other children, Samaira and Kiaan, appear protected by existing financial and legal safeguards.
