It's straightforward, soulful and just addictive
Before Minho, there was Peter Kavinsky.
To All The Boys...was the romcom…that well, didn’t revive romcoms as such, but oh, what a breather, at least.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved, is for those who love the sweet, soft and trademark high school romances that actually carried some meaning. Starring Lana Condor as the steady, resolute Lara Jean and Noah Centineo as the ‘woah-woah- Peter Kavinsky as he was often called for months after the film, the story followed Lara Jean’s quest for true love.
Whenever she has a ‘crush so intense’, she writes a letter, and keeps it away. Altogether, she has over five. And one day, her sister, Kitty (Anna Cathcart who went on later to have her own spinoff) plays a devilish hand here and sends out the letters.
And, Peter Kavinsky, is one of them owing to a seventh grade crush.
And so begins all the tropes we know: The fake date and relationship, but obviously, they fall in love.
Along the way, they fall in love ‘on a lacross field’ as Lara Jean later muses
But their story isn't without trials, tribulations and ex-girlfriends, insecurities and misunderstandings. There are two more films to go, one here Peter and Lara realise the unrealistic expectations of extra-idyllic promises, and finally, in the last, the usual complications of college and how to overcome distance.
The trilogy is straightforward, sweet. It’s not cerebral.
But it’s addictive, and just soulful and comforting. So while you wait for XO Kitty Season 3, go for this.
