Faissal Khan had earlier hurled several accusations at the family
Aamir Khan and his family have expressed deep distress over recent statements made by his brother Faissal Khan, who opened up in an interview about years of alleged mistreatment by the family.
In a firm response, Khan and his family released a statement to the media outlets, addressing Faissal’s claims, saying, “We are distressed by Faissal's hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions, and reaffirm our solidarity as a family.”
They emphasised that all decisions concerning Faissal have been made collectively, with guidance from medical professionals, and grounded in love and compassion aimed at supporting his emotional and psychological wellbeing. Due to the sensitive nature of the situation, they have avoided discussing these private matters publicly and requested media empathy to avoid turning this family issue into inflammatory gossip.
The full statement: We are distressed by Faissal's hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions, and reaffirm our solidarity as a family.
It is important to share that every choice regarding Faissal has been taken collectively as a family, in consultation with multiple medical professionals, and has been based on love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological wellbeing. For this reason, we have refrained from publicly discussing the details of a painful and difficult period for our family.
We request the media for empathy, and to refrain from turning a private matter into salacious, inflammatory and hurtful gossip.
On his part, speaking with Pinkvilla, Faissal shared how the family labeled him as having schizophrenia and described him as “a mad person” who could “harm society.” He claimed that Aamir had locked him inside his Mumbai home for over a year, taking away his phone and confining him under the watch of bodyguards outside his room.
He also revealed his hopes for rescue, praying that his father, then married to his second wife and away from family politics—would come to his aid.
The relationship between Aamir and Faissal has long been fraught. Faissal was previously involved in a legal dispute with the family after being asked to give up his signatory rights, leading him to approach the courts. He has also revealed undergoing a 20-day mental evaluation at JJ Hospital, where doctors reportedly declared him mentally fit. The brothers once appeared together onscreen in the 2000 film Mela, starring Twinkle Khanna and directed by Dharmesh Darshan.
