The heist, caught on camera, is now being shared on social media by users demanding answers from Delhi Police.

According to some media reports, the men robbed the bank of Rs200,000 [Dh9,969] before fleeing. The invesigation is underway according to news agency ANI.

However, social media users were upset with the security situation in the capital.

@DarshitJoshi_ tweeted: “This is very disturbing in the capital of India!! @DelhiPolice is very weak ... need improvement in their performance like @MumbaiPolice.”

Another Twitter user @Sunilkath tagged Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and India’s Home Minister Rajnath Sing, adding: “What is happening? Are we safe anywhere at all?”

Journalist @rajshekharTOI provided some context to the robbery, tweeting: “There hadn’t been a ‘bank robbery’ in Delhi in decades. Yesterday, six armed and masked robbers entered a Corporation bank branch in South West Delhi, shot dead a cashier and looted cash around Rs 3.2 lakh. They fled on bikes towards Gurgaon without any resistance.”

Another user @abulkalam003 felt the political environment in the country was to be blamed for the current law and order situation, writing: “Police system is busy in looking at who is critical of the government, not at [the wellbeing of] public and society.”
