Dubai: Ras Al Khaimah welcomed 12,709 visitors during the three-day Eid Al Adha period, according to a statement on Tuesday from the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (Ras Al Khaimah TDA).

Hotel occupancy reached 93 per cent during the Eid period. Hotels in the emirate recorded an average length of stay of 2.4 days.

Visitors from the UAE represented 43 per cent of the total number. The top source markets also included the United Kingdom (representing 12 per cent of visitors), Germany, India, Egypt, United States, the Philippines, Jordan and Russia, according to the statement.

“We have ambitious targets to grow the emirate’s tourism industry, specifically to welcome one million visitors by the end of 2018 and these positive numbers show we are on the right track to achieve these goals,” said Haitham Mattar, CEO of Ras Al Khaimah TDA, in the statement.

The authority’s strategy is “focused on our existing source markets, whilst nurturing the emerging markets which provide significant growth potential,” Mattar added.

Ras Al Khaimah TDA did not provide the hotel revenue figure during the Eid period. Mattar said that hotels in the emirate “reported strong increases across room revenue and other revenue such as food and beverage and we are confident that we’ll continue to see this positive growth throughout the rest of the year.”

Ras Al Khaimah has over 5,000 hotel rooms and plans to add an additional 3,600 rooms by 2019, operated by Marriott International, Accor, Crown Plaza and Anantara, among others.
