Dubai: Selfie-lovers and art aficionados are invited to The Beach this weekend as the three-dimensional (3D) pavement artworks for the Dubai Canvas are nearing completion and almost ready.

The Dubai Canvas, an annual festival celebrating art and culture which opened Sunday, features 11 international artists who have come to the emirate to showcase 3D pavement art. All the artists have been painting two artworks each that give the impression of rising from or falling into the pavement if viewed from certain angles.

Some works feature vignettes from the early pearl fishing history of the UAE, while some others capture the skyscrapers of Dubai, falcons, abras, and a camera, among other themes.

The festival which runs until Saturday is organised by Brand Dubai, a subsidiary of the Government of Dubai Media Office.

Plans are afoot to bring these artworks closer to the people after the festival itself as part of their thrust to convert Dubai into an open-air museum.

“The pieces will be distributed across different areas in Dubai such as the DIFC Art Nights, Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, universities, The Beach and some more,” Noura Al Abbar, Director Communications and Innovation at Dubai Government Media Office, told Gulf News.

Organisers will also distribute copies of the artworks, believed to be in the form of post cards, in different locations to give people a chance to get to know 3D pavement art.
