Dubai: Manazel Real Estate said it is preparing for the opening of its Dh1.07 billion Capital Mall, a project that is part of a 230,000 square metre master development called "9712 Capital", located in Mohammad Bin Zayed City.

Capital Mall will consist of three stories spanning 60,158 square metres of retail space and house 278 fashion, electronics, jewellery and service retail stores, in addition to entertainment outlets, which include a diverse selection of restaurants and cafes.

Mohammad Mehanna Al Qubaisi, chairman of Manazel Real Estate, said, "Capital Mall has been completed in accordance with its proposed deadline, built according to quality and environmental protocol procedures. It recently received the building completion certificate from Abu Dhabi's local authorities."

The mall will be ready for a soft launch in the first quarter of 2012, with its official opening set for the second quarter of the year.

Al Qubaisi said the mall would be an important addition to the area, due in part to its prime location in the new Capital District. The mall is expected to provide services to residents of Mohammad Bin Zayed City as well as neighbouring areas such as Khalifa City, Al Falah, Al Raha Beach, Bani Yas, Al Shawamekh, in addition to other Capital District developments currently under construction.

"Capital Mall will contribute to introducing new life into the area and will revitalise it in accordance with the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision of residential development within the new Capital District," Al Qubaisi added.

Manazel has signed contracts with several large local and global retail brands, led by Géant Hypermarket. Opening its first branch in Abu Dhabi at the Capital Mall, Géant Hypermarket will occupy 7,200 square metres of space, catering to visitors' daily shopping needs.

Arif Shaikh, managing director of Retail Arabia, the company operating Géant Hypermarket said, "Our decision to open a Géant hypermarket at the Capital Mall is because of its prime location. Its proximity to Abu Dhabi International Airport places it in a unique position to attract shoppers not only from Abu Dhabi, but also from Al Ain, Mussafah and Dubai. This will also give us economies of scale with suppliers to negotiate good deals and prices."

Fahed Hareb, chief commercial officer of Manazel Real Estate, said the interior design of the mall provides an oasis-like environment. The mall will house a grand atrium, providing an abundance of natural light.

The shopping centre is also designed for a smooth flow of pedestrian traffic, allowing its visitors to move through the mall with ease. There are provisions for 3,000 parking spaces across three levels. This includes handicap parking spots and valet services. "We have commissioned DTZ as our agency of choice to manage leasing of all retail space within Capital Mall," Hareb said.
