Dubai: A project has been confirmed for the site that used to host the Dubai Zoo in Jumeirah 1.

The makeover will see the site turn into a 'vibrant' residential and lifestyle destination, according to the developer Shamal.

The low-rise development will have 90 residential units, with the project blending 'heritage and modernity using clean geometry and natural materials'.

These units will be placed in Dubai's residential leasing market.

It was in late 2017 that the original Dubai Zoo was closed and shifted to the Dubai Safari Park.

The new residential project will include shared courtyards, a central park, and 'preserved mature trees' to 'maintain continuity with the landscape'.

"The development is shaped to harmonise with the surrounding Jumeirah neighbourhood, bringing warmth, subtlety and character to a high-demand location," said a statement.

"This is more than a redevelopment; it is a profound reimagining of a beloved landmark that holds deep connections for countless individuals and the wider community," said Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Executive Officer at Shamal.

"Our vision is to respectfully honour the site’s rich past and curate a progressive space for modern living. It is designed for people to live, connect, and thrive, fostering a personal, calm, and grounded lifestyle that blends heritage with the present.”

Site preparation is complete, with construction anticipated to begin soon.

Up and down the Jumeirah stretch, there have been extensive redevelopments as well as new projects that have slotted into place. As a location, it remains one of the most premium residential districts in the city.
