Dubai: Nakheel has called in a familiar name to take on the task of creating 23.5 kilometres of coastline and breakwaters at Deira Islands, in a project that will cost around Dh550 million.

Van Oord Middle East Ltd’s Dubai Branch project mandate includes the beaches, quay walls, rock edges and breakwaters at the islands. The two-year contract is valued at Dh387 million, one of the larger ones awarded to date on the development.

Van Oord had earlier been associated with Nakheel on the dredging and coastal work on its other waterfront projects such as the Palm Jumeirah and The World which added 300 kilometres to Dubai’s coastline.
