Dubai: The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) said it commissioned two power stations with a capacity of 132/400 kv at a total cost of Dh883 million at Al Aweer and Meydan last month.

Work to set up the new stations included setting up 400 kv overhead lines at a cost of Dh17 million at Mushri, Wursan, Meydan and Jebel Ali.

"The projects' main aim is to improve electricity power transmission in Al Awir and Meydan. The plants also contain four transformers each with a capacity of 2020 megavolt-ampere," said Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.

Dewa continues to carry out developmental projects in a variety of activities to enhance the capabilities of Dubai's infrastructure in line with the strategic plans of the emirate, and to meet Dewa's aspirations to reach the highest standard in provided services and reliability.

Al Tayer said that the authority aims to consolidate Dubai's pioneering status in the region, and strengthen its role as a business, financial and tourism hub, "The authority is working towards enhancing the capacity of the networks, and taking steps forward in executing vital projects as part of our infrastructure support strategy," he said.

"The plant makes use of the most advanced digital technology to ensure efficiency and reliability. The authority is striving to increase productivity and efficiency to contribute towards driving the march of sustainable development," he said. Al Tayer pointed out that the new plants are linked with other power stations through overhead lines stretching over a distance of 1.6km.
