Al Shafar General Contracting's roster of current projects is valued at about Dh1.5 billion, company representatives said.

"The construction industry in the UAE is growing at an extremely rapid pace," said Emad Azmy, managing partner, Al Shafar General Contracting (ASGC).

ASGC is confident the construction boom in Dubai will continue, company representatives said.

The company has completed several prestigious projects and doubled its turnover in 2004 compared to the previous year. It expects this trend to continue in 2005 as well, company representatives said.

"The combination of a buoyant economy, rapid population growth, an increasing focus on tourism and high profile events this has captured the world's attention. This is fueling the need for [Dubai's] infrastructure to keep expanding," Azmy said.

Having completed the Ministry of Public Works building as well as Phase 2 of the Greens for Emaar, ASGC was also awarded Sector 6 of Jumeirah Beach Residence, Al Shatha Tower, and the Mohammad Saif Al Shafar Tower which will be one of the UAE's highest residential towers, at 67 floors, when completed.

The company is currently at the finishing stages of building the Dubai Police headquarters.

ASGC has grown over the past 20 years thanks to the way its employees, who number about 4,500, emphasise quality, meeting deadlines and a safe atmosphere in their work, Azmy said.

ASGC is not the largest player in Dubai's market, but this is not preventing the company from successfully leveraging its strengths to create value for clients, Azmy said.

"Our quality assurance efforts, our use of the latest technology, our aim of delivering projects on time these things are helping ASGC to cement its reputation as one of the most reliable and reputable construction companies in Dubai," he said.
