Dubai" Al Rostamani Pegel (ARP), a member of Al Rostamani Group, on Monday said it has been awarded a project for the construction of a hotel and hotel apartments by Nilona Holding, a member of the Onyx Group.

The hotel and hotel apartments will be operated by Marriott International.

Valued at Dh700 million, Marriott Hotel & Marriott Executive Apartments will be located in Dubai Healthcare City Phase II, and will house 24 storeys, ground floor and 3 basement floors for parking. The tower will feature 352 guest rooms, 128 serviced apartments, comprehensive health and fitness facilities.

"Guests and residents will also have an array of nutritious gourmet dining and be surrounded by spectacular scenery," a spokesperson said.

Onyx Group is engaged in diverse business activities in UAE and Sri Lanka.

Work under way

Construction has already begun, and the expected date of completion of the hotel tower is January 2012.

Al Rostamani Pegel, a civil engineering and construction firm, commenced operations in 1999 as a joint venture between Al Rostamani Group and Gustav Pegel and Sohn, a German construction company.

By 2002 the ongoing successes led to the company's transformation from project management to become a full-fledged construction company, wholly owned by the Al Rostamani Group.

In the last few years, it has executed several high-rise buildings which adorn the skyline of Dubai, including the Tamani Hotel Tower, Roshana Tower, 21st Century Tower and many more.

The 21st Century Tower in Dubai, which was launched in 2004 found mention in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest residential tower for about 3 years.

Marriott International operates more than 3,400 lodging properties in 68 countries and territories, including six properties currently operating in Dubai.

The company is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, USA and had approximately 137,000 employees at 2009 year-end.
