ABB wins $45m orders from Gulf

Swiss firm to supply $30m worth of equipment to Abu Dhabi plant

Last updated:

Dubai: Swiss engineering and technology firm ABB said it has won two orders from Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia, collectively worth $45 million (Dh165.15 million).

The largest order worth more than $30 million came from Saipem and Samsung Engineering Co, to provide a range of power and automation equipment for a natural gas processing plant in Abu Dhabi.

The plant is located in the Shah natural gas field 180 kilometres southwest of Abu Dhabi, and has a daily production target of one billion cubic feet of sour gas.

Abu Dhabi is developing its sour gas reserves as domestic power consumption soars. The hydrogen sulfide content of the gas must be reduced to acceptable levels before it can be used.

For this project ABB Italy and ABB South Korea will supply low voltage switchgear, intelligent motor control units and variable frequency drives.

"This order is the end result of a successful ‘One ABB' collaboration between different local teams," said Tarak Mehta, head of ABB's Low Voltage Products division.
