The refrigerator market in the UAE has recorded an average of 27 per cent growth per annum over the last few years, said an industry analyst.

"The growth is expected to increase in the coming years due to the changing lifestyles and new developments in the country," said Deepak J. Babani, chief executive officer of Eros Group.

The group is a leading distributor of consumer electronics, appliances and telecommunication products in the country.

Babani said about 150,000 to 200,000 refrigerators are sold in the UAE annually. However, he said, the trend has changed.

Customers now prefer to buy larger sizes of refrigerators, ranging from 400 litres and above mainly because of the extra storage facility.

He said that Hitachi refrigerators distributed by Eros Group, have a 13 per cent share in the market and are amongst the main competitors.

"With the launch of the world's first Nano Titanium Refrigerator from Hitachi, we expect to increase our share in the market," he told a press conference held in Dubai on Tuesday.

Nano Titanium is a nanoparticle antimicrobial agent. The Nano Titanium range is available in 15 models from 197 litres to 660 litres.

Hitachi also launched its Nano Titanium range of vacuum cleaners in Dubai.

H. Hirose, general manager, Hitachi-Middle East, said: "We deliver the highest quality of products, never losing sight of the original role of the product to give the consumer maximum benefit and satisfaction."
