International accounting firm KPMG has registered to operate as an ancillary services provider at the Dubai International Financial Centre, a financial free zone in the city, a DIFC statement said yesterday.

DIFC said KPMG had registered with its regulator, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), and will offer accounting, tax and related services from its base in the DIFC. KPMG is a global network of professional services firms providing audit, tax and advisory services and operates in 148 countries.

It has been in the UAE since 1973 and currently employs more than 300 people at its offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

"The financial institutions operating here will find the same services and quality of support as in any other major financial centre, only with the added bonuses of an attractive fiscal regime and a rapidly growing financial sector," DIFCA director general Omar Bin Sulaiman, said in the statement.

Vijendra Nath Malhotra, CEO of KPMG UAE, said DIFC was an obvious choice for KPMG to set up an office to complement its offices in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

"As one of the 'Big Four' global accountancy firms, we are pleased to associate ourselves with this new development in Dubai," Malhotra said.
