Juma Al Majid Automobiles took the top spot in the Consumer Friendliness Index 2013, the Department of Economic Development (DED) announced on Tuesday.

In the second year of the Award which hosted by the DED to honour the top ranked retailer in the consumers friendliness index, Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, presented the winners from each of the six business categories, which include, Café, hypermarket, retail, electronics, furniture and cars.

DED launched this index’s initiative last year in the aim to promote service excellence, competitiveness and encourage best practices in the retail sector, which expected to grow by 5.6 per cent on annual bases in the UAE until 2017.

Service quality, billing transparency, sharing of warranty information by salesperson and overall satisfaction are the chief criteria for the index.

Juam Al Majid Automobiles took top spot in both the overall rating and the Automobiles category.

Khalid Eisa, COO of Juma Al Majid Group, told Gulf News that since the inception in 1950, the Group’s vision was set to satisfy customers and maintain the best reputation in the market.

“The Group fair prices and quick resolution of complaints as well as the well trained sales team are the main factors behind this high rating,” he said.

They have adopted a strategy to re-energising all the business sectors across the Group focusing on customer relationship, he added.

“Adopting a new strategy has resulted a double digit growth across the overall Group’s businesses. Which is quite above and beyond the market growth,” Issa said.

Retail spend by visitors to Dubai alone is estimated to reach 33 billion dirhams by 2017, more than a quarter of the total sales, said Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED.

“Retail’s sales in Dubai is also set to increase 5.7 per cent between 2013 and 2017. It is therefore important that service quality in the retail sector evolves in line with the expected demand,” he added.

According to Al Qamzi, the Consumer Friendliness Index is a major initiative aimed to boost consumer confidence and promote best practices in consumer protection in retailing in Dubai.

Such initiatives ultimately serves to enhance retail sector competitiveness and Dubai’s reputation as one of the best shopping destinations,” Al Qamzi said.

Lulu Hypermarkets, Tim Hortons, Emax, Alshaya (Debenhams), Homes R Us are among retailers that were honoured.
