Abu Dhabi: Not only is the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (Idex) a major milestone for the UAE military and technology sectors, but a beneficial tool by which human development can further advance, said Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mub-arak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, during an exclusive interview with Gulf News.

During his tour around Idex after its opening, Shaikh Nahyan spoke to Gulf News about the importance of Idex.

"The type of technology we use here helps us connect with the rest of the world. The fact that 53 different countries from across the globe are taking part in this year's 10th international defence exhibition is an indication of how capable the UAE is in holding quality exhibitions as well as its high level of interest towards providing itself with the best type of security possible," he said.

Political situation

Asked whether the political situation in some countries of the Arab world is worrying, he replied: "I have absolutely no worries for the UAE. Our founding father, the late UAE president Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan established a great foundation for the UAE, firstly and foremost through investing in its own people. Human resources are our security, and people are the initial protectors of a nation, and this will always be the case in the UAE.

"UAE leaders are following up on Shaikh Zayed's doctrine, philosophy and teaching. Our present leadership is committed to investing in its human resources, and we are all custodians towards the UAE's achievement, security and safety.

"The UAE is a country of prosperity, security and wise leadership. I have no doubts about our country and our people, who again I add are the main security of our country."
