Nabors Drilling International said yesterday it was constructing two technologically advanced deep drilling rigs at the Lamprell facility in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone.
Rig 54 and Rig 200 are designed to meet the deep gas exploration and development needs in the Middle East, the American drilling contractor said in a press statement.
Both rigs will use Nabors proprietary PACE (programmable A/C electric) drilling technology to create a new generation of deep drilling rigs.
Siggi Meissner, president of Nabors Drilling International, said, "The advances in technology, captured in these revolutionary new rigs, will allow our customers to drill safely deeper, and faster than ever before."
Following the completion of the rigs, they will each begin six-month contracts and Nabors expects to secure multi-year contracts before the construction is completed.
