Dubai: Individuals, organisations and government entities were awarded during the World Energy Forum 2012 for their outstanding contribution in the field of energy.

The Energy Award ceremony, held late on Monday, which was hosted in Dubai under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice president and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, attended the event amid a huge gathering of leaders from member states of the United Nations, international organisations, more than 2,000 delegates, scores of national energy ministers and top leaders from the industry and corporations participating in the forum.

The Technology Innovation Award went to the Union of International Smart Network, an award granted to an organisation and individual for developing new technologies in the sustainable energy sector.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) was recognised for its efforts and initiatives to diversify energy as well as for its adoption of the international standards for energy saving.

The Humanitarian Award, meanwhile, went to the Life Gas, developed by Vietnam government, for its role in improving the lives of people through the implantation of clean, sustainable, safe and innovative programmes.

The ceremony also recognised the best editorial piece about the renewable and sustainable energy. While 500 participants from 70 countries around the glob applied for this award, only two got the recognition.

The International Energy Essay Contest went in the first place to Oluwole Adeuyi for his article “Sustainability for all; vision, reality and solution.” While Melissa Stults got the second place for her article “Sustainability for All — Building a sustainable, resilient, affordable, accessible, and equitable energy future”.
