Lekkershop, a South African butchery specialising in quality halal meats recently opened in Dubai with a 6000 sq foot stand- alone flagship store located in Al Qouz. Having launched in the MENA region in April 2021, it has since established a strong rapport in just few short months.
Lekkershop, a meat-lover’s home away from home for many South African expats, imports only the best beef and lamb from South Africa and Australia through responsibly sourced channels. The store is stocked with well-known South African favourites such as boerewors, sosaties, oxtail and lamb chops along with many varieties of biltong, South Africa’s much-loved dried meat, and other local favourites including traditional braai wood, potjie pots, condiments and sauces from renowned outlets such as Spur and Steers. Meat lovers can enjoy succulent cuts of ribeye, rump, prime rib, T-bone, either unmarinated or choose from a variety of special blends of flavours such as Afghani, curry, sosatie, malai, sweet and spicy, lemon and herb, Moroccan, mint and herb and the infamous peri-peri marinade.

‘We spotted a gap in the market for premium quality meats at affordable prices and since opening have been blessed with a strong repeat customer database,’ says Douglas Castelyn, General Manager.
‘Our motto is to deliver only the best cuts paying special attention to the handling and the storage process. Our most unique product is our specially cured cold meats, it is a first in the UAE, we also make all our own biltong with our biltong cakes, made purely of dried meat, among our most popular. With our 24-hour delivery promise, we have observed an increase in online orders,’ he says.
‘I have lived in Dubai for many years and found meat can be really pricey. As a South African we are used to eating meat daily and enjoy a family braai on the weekend. We are so glad Lekkershop has opened, they stock all of our favourites. Due to the huge success since its launch, a second Lekkershop will be opening in Central Mall, Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi at the end of the week.
