Cyprus: The INEX Club hosted its 2024 Charity Ride on May 18th, 2024, supporting the Cyprus National Cycling Team, a media release said. According to the organisers, the event brought together 80 young cyclists who cycled 300 km and 150 km from INEX Club in Germasogeia and passed through scenic locations such as Agros, Larnaca, Protaras, and Ayia Napa.

Igor Makarov, a Cyprus national, entrepreneur, and former professional cyclist, participated as a major sponsor. Together with other generous sponsors, they have provided funds for bicycles and essential equipment for the Cypriot Cycling Federation's athletes. This support will enable cyclists to concentrate on honing their riding abilities.

"INEX and the President of Cyprus Cycling Federation did an excellent job supporting the development of cycling in Cyprus," said Makarov. "Our charity initiatives are not only about helping those who need it but also about developing cycling for all globally. This is something I am personally committed to doing as a former professional cyclist and a member of the UCI Management Committee," he added.

As a Cyprus citizen for over 30 years, Makarov's involvement marks the beginning of strategic partnerships to advance cycling in Cyprus, the media release said. He is committed to fostering local talent and enhancing the tools needed for the sport to thrive.

"I have seen a positive change in the culture and safety of cycling in Cyprus," Makarov noted. "Today, our goal is to go beyond just providing needed financial assistance but also make contributions using our cycling experience and expertise."

According to the media release, Makarov's involvement in the INEX Charity Ride is part of a long-standing commitment to supporting cycling development. However, his support extends beyond this event. For decades, he has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to various charity projects, including the development of cycling globally. He founded the professional cycling team Katusha Team and has sponsored federations of Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) and local charity rides, such as ‘The Tour de Broward’ and ‘The Hublot Best Buddies Challenge: Miami.’

The success of the 2024 INEX Club Charity Ride demonstrates the bright future of cycling in Cyprus and globally. With continued support and investment, these young athletes can develop their skills, achieve their dreams, and inspire the next generation of cyclists, says the media release.
