Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, founded in 1998 by Dr Thumbay Moideen, celebrated its 23nd anniversary through a special event at the University campus on November 7, attended by Prof. Hossam Hamdy – Chancellor of GMU, and in the presence of Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President, Healthcare Division, along with the Vice Chancellors, Deans, faculty and staff, as well as a number of students who watched the event while it was being streamed live on YouTube.

Prof Hossam Hamdy, while addressing the gathering at the event, said, “23 years ago, there was no Gulf Medical University, but through Dr Thumbay Moideen’s vision, leadership and hard work, and above all his ethical values, we now have this magnificent campus and a strong reputation as Academic Health System."

The event also witnessed the official launch of the Certificate Programme for Students as Tutors. Offering the aptitude on how to teach and train, this is an important competency, as the student tutor receives a lot of benefits by learning how to impart knowledge to others. The programme was initially started by the College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing before being implemented University wide.

The student’s council, represented by Mark Khayat, final year, College of Dentistry, and Shariq Khan, final year, College of Medicine, were also present during the occassion to proudly launch the Peer Tutoring Club, which has more than 40 students enrolled, and who will undergo the Certificate Programme.

Congratulatory messages from 60 partner institutions and various alumni from different countries poured in for the GMU team for all their developments and achievements.
