Istanbul hosts thought leaders from 30+ nations for dialogue on pressing global challenges
Istanbul: Influential leaders, intellectuals, and experts from around the world convened in Istanbul for the TRT World Forum 2024. Held for the 8th time this year under the theme “A World at Breaking Point: Managing Crises and Transformations,” the forum took place on November 29-30, gaining global attention as a platform for exploring solutions to pressing global issues. Nearly 150 speakers from over 30 countries and more than 1,500 participants engaged in two days of discussions in Istanbul, fostering international solidarity and understanding.
Policymakers, journalists, academics, and representatives from the public and private sectors gathered to address critical issues affecting humanity, including geopolitical crises and the societal impacts of artificial intelligence. The forum featured eight panel sessions and eight roundtable discussions.
As one of the most high-profile events in the global media industry, TRT World Forum transformed Istanbul into a hub for international dialogue. Opening speeches were delivered by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Presidency's Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun, and TRT Director General Mehmet Zahid Sobacı. During the ceremony, President Erdoğan was presented with a special artwork inspired by Al Aqsa Mosque.
The forum began with a session titled “Elections 2024 in the US and EU Members.” Key sessions addressed topics such as “Türkiye’s Path Forward,” “Media Distortion Exposed,” and “Addressing Gross Violations of Human Rights in Conflicts.” The event garnered significant attention from global media, becoming a focal point for calls for international solutions.
Prominent figures from politics, academia, and media included former President of Croatia Ivo Josipović, Lithuania's former President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Türkiye’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Hakan Fidan, Lebanon’s Minister of Information Ziad Makary, Editor-in-Chief of Alhiwar TV Dr Azzam Tamimi, Palestinian Center for Human Rights Director Raji Sourani, and Emergency Physician Dr Mohammad Subeh.
