Dubai: The Dubai-based tech firm, Cusp Technologies, plans to launch field tests for to prove that magnetic beams can take down drones.

This is based on creating a ‘magnetic shield’ to repel drones, and be used from aircraft that are directed remotely, or are pre-programmed for a certain route.

The technology also provides the ability to expand its defense capabilities, to create a magnetic shield designed to protect the vital infrastructure areas of countries, and can counter hostile attacks.

“After a period of successful research and studies on the technology, our team proved that it is possible to take advantage of magnetic beam techniques to repel drone attacks,” said Mohamed Saleh, President of Cusp.

The magnetic shield consists of units that are distributed around important areas or buildings, forming a pyramid-like magnetic shield. The shield works without any detection devices or radars, which means an advantage in terms of cost. It also works around the clock as a gatekeeper that can be switched off and on when needed.

"It is high time for a field test to prove the concept of new technology in cooperation with some regional countries, to demonstrate the competency of the technology," added Saleh.

Cusp was supposed to present a field test demonstration of its new technology at IDEX 2021, held recently in Abu Dhabi. But security reasons related to the need to apply the new technology to a wide geographical field, made the test on the exhibition grounds improbable, according to the company.
