Dubai: Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD) has appointed Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami as chairman of its board of directors.

In a statement today, CBD said Qutami joined the bank’s board in March 2015, bringing with him several years of notable government experience.

He is currently director-general of the Dubai Health Authority, in addition to serving on the boards of several other government and federal organisations.

He has also held the offices of Minister of Education and Minister of Health in the UAE government, among many other high-profile positions.

Al Qutami thanked outgoing chairman Saeed Ahmad Gobash for his tireless efforts in growing the bank significantly since taking over as chairman of the board in 2012.

The board also appointed Ahmad Abdul Karim Julfar as board vice-chairman. Julfar is director-general of the Community Development Authority and a board member of several other organisations that include Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du). He also served as the group chief executive officer of etisalat and chairman of Thuraya Telecommunication’s board.
