Dubai: Dubai International is set to begin testing at the new Concourse D, connected to Terminal 1, next month.

“Dubai Airports is gearing up to launch a rigorous programme to test and trial all equipment, systems and processes to ensure a flawless opening in the first quarter of next year,” according to the latest issue of “Connect,” Dubai Airports quarterly newsletter.

Starting August, management and stakeholders will begin basic trials testing the readiness of equipment and systems including the rail link, boarding gates and transfer of passengers between Concourse D and the rest of the airport.

Testing and trials will become more complex towards the end of the year with full passenger trials to also test-run the new Concourse.

Around 3,500 employees from Dubai Airports and other stakeholders will also undergo familaristation and training in the new facility.

Once open, Concourse D will lift Dubai International’s capacity to 90 million passengers a year and will be linked to a completely refurbished Terminal 1 by a rail system.

Concourse D is set to open early 2015.
