Dubai: Flights at Abu Dhabi International, the home of Etihad Airways, have been suspended due to the adverse weather conditions across the United Arab Emirates.

The suspension has forced flights to divert to Al Ain International, an airport on the Abu Dhabi and Oman border, and to Dubai International, according to the airports website.

“Due to severe weather conditions, flights at Abu Dhabi International Airport are suspended until further notice, for the safety of our passengers and in line with civil aviation regulations,” operator Abu Dhabi Airports said in an emailed statement at 12:45pm on Wednesday.

The weather conditions have also forced the closure of Abu Dhabi Air Expo, a business jet air show. The show was closed early on Tuesday because of a deluge of rain.

Flights at Dubai International, the world’s busiest airport for international passengers and home to Emirates, have also been affected by the rain. The Dubai Airports website is showing some flight departures delayed by as much as two hours,
