Qatar Airways CEO says ‘wait and see’ on Dubai airshow orders

He believes traditional in-flight entertainment (IFE) units will be replaced by passengers using their own devices in the next few years

Hamburg: Qatar airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, when asked in Hamburg about possible orders at the Dubai Airshow, says “wait and see”. He further said that he believes traditional in-flight entertainment (IFE) units found in seat-backs will be replaced by passengers using their own devices in the next few years. “What is going to happen in next five, six, seven years, is that people will bring their own devices, hook them behind the seat and get content relayed to them through the internet,” Al Baker said at the IATA World Passenger Symposium in Hamburg. He added that removing seat-back systems would save weight and thus costs for airlines.
