UAE carriers extend flight cancellations and rerouting; some flights are reinstated
Dubai: As regional tensions continue to affect airspace, flydubai has announced that its flight cancellations have been extended until June 16, with some flights across its network being reinstated.
This comes as Wizz Air Abu Dhabi confirms cancellations due to the evolving situation. Both airlines are prioritising passenger safety and are closely monitoring developments.
A spokesperson for flydubai confirmed on June 14, that flights to Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria remain cancelled for June 15 and 16. However, the airline has reinstated some flights to destinations previously impacted across its network. These reinstated flights are being rerouted to avoid the affected airspace.
The airline said, "We continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust our schedule accordingly. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our passengers. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority."
Passengers affected by these changes are advised to contact the airline.
Meanwhile, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has also been impacted by the evolving situation and the closure of multiple airspaces. The airline cancelled several flights today (June 14) scheduled to overfly affected areas and could not be rerouted.
Wizz Air Abu Dhabi said the safety of its passengers, crew, and aircraft is its highest priority. Impacted passengers have been directly notified via email or text message and provided with options for rebooking or a full refund. The airline is offering free rebooking to affected customers or a full refund, either in Wizz credits or in the original form of payment.
Travellers with upcoming flights are strongly advised to regularly check their email and flight status for the latest updates. The airline said passengers who booked through travel agencies or online platforms should contact their agents for assistance.
Iran and Israel traded missiles and airstrikes on Saturday, the day after Israel launched a sweeping air offensive against Iran, killing commanders and scientists and bombing nuclear sites in a stated bid to stop it building an atomic weapon.
