Dubai: Passengers looking for more travel options to Europe will benefit from flydubai’s latest expansion. The Dubai-based carrier will launch flights to Chișinău (capital of Moldova) and Iași (Romania) in September and Riga (Latvia) and Vilnius (Lithuania) in December, bringing its European total to 35 destinations.

This move also introduces the first direct UAE connection to Iași, Romania. It adds the Baltic region to flydubai’s growing list of over 100 underserved markets.

Economy Class Lite airfares to these destinations will start from Dh1,600.

The carrier started operating in Romania in 2012 with the launch of flights to Bucharest. Additionally, flydubai is set to begin its seasonal summer flight operations on June 4, offering flights to 11 holiday destinations. This year's summer network includes two new destinations: Al Alamein in Egypt and Antalya in Türkiye.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said, “The expansion of our network reflects our unwavering commitment to opening up underserved markets and stimulating free flows of trade and tourism, and we are pleased to see this happen with the launch of our latest destinations in Europe."

He added, "Today, we have built a diverse network of more than 135 destinations, 75 per cent of which are underserved routes from Dubai.”

Commenting on the launch of flights, Jeyhun Efendi, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and e-commerce at flydubai, said, “Europe remains an important market for flydubai, and we are excited to grow our network with the addition of Chișinău, Iași, Riga and Vilnius.”

Efendi said, “These gateways into Eastern Europe and the Baltic region will enable more passengers to enjoy an enhanced travel experience with a convenient service to Dubai and further beyond on the flydubai network as well as the Emirates network through our codeshare partnership.”

New aircraft

The airline clarifies that Emirates will codeshare on all four routes, offering passengers more options for connections through Dubai’s international aviation hub.

The all-Boeing airline is set to welcome 12 new aircraft from the American manufacturer this year. In the first half of 2024, flydubai received four Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which were part of a backlog from previous years and experienced significant delays.

Despite this, the airline's 2024 financial report indicates that none of the aircraft contractually scheduled for delivery in 2024 were received, due to ongoing challenges at Boeing.
