Dubai: Emirates recently received four new widebody aircraft in a single day, a record for the world’s largest airline on international routes.

Two Boeing 777-300ERs (extended range), a Boeing 777 Freighter and an Airbus A380 were delivered to the airline, according to an Emirates press release emailed on Thursday.

The four aircraft were delivered over a 24-hour period on August 31 and September 1, a spokesperson told Gulf News by email. The value of the aircraft is $1.5 billion.

The recent delivery is also a record for Boeing. It is the first time in 15 years it has delivered three 777 variants to a single customer in one day, the manufacturer said in a statement.

Emirates fleet now has 147 of the 777 variants and 66 of A380s. It was the 150th 777 delivery to Emirates. The airline, the world’s largest operator of the 777 and A380, has retired three 777s since receiving its first order in 1996.

The maiden flights for the new 777-300ERs were to Kuwait and Mumbai, while the first new A380 flight was to Dusseldorf and the 777 Freighter was scheduled to fly from Seattle to Hong Kong, Emirates said.

Emirates has received 14 new aircraft this year; nine A380s, four 777-300ERs and the one 777 Freighter and has retired eight; four Airbus A340-500s, three A330-200s and a Boeing 777-200. Its fleet currently sits at 238 aircraft.
